About Sophie
Sophie is 41 and lives in Milton Keynes with her two children — a boy and a girl, both now in their early teens and both apparently permanently hungry. She has cooked pescatarian at home for years: fish, eggs, beans and lentils, a great deal of vegetables, and a weekly rotation of dinners that have to work on a school night.
For most of the last decade she was at home with the children. Now that both are at secondary school she is working her way back into accountancy, and writing recipes in the time around it. She says the two have more in common than people expect: both are mostly about getting the quantities right and checking your work.
What she cooks
Weeknight dinners that do not take an hour, one-pot dishes, soups that use up whatever is left in the vegetable drawer, tray bakes, curries, and a pudding when the week has earned it. She is pescatarian rather than vegan, which is why the collection has a proper seafood and pescatarian section sitting alongside the vegan and vegetarian recipes.
Recipes here are written for people who are tired and hungry: the ingredient list runs in the order you use things, the method is written in full sentences so it makes sense on a phone propped against the kettle, and anything with a trap in it — a spice that burns, a sauce that splits — is flagged on the page rather than discovered halfway through.
